Description:
George Thompson writes to Mary Anne Estlin in regards to seeing a letter from her father to Mr. Chamerovzow as the subject of the London Conference and the "mythical speech." He writes, "I am deeply pained to find him under the impression that I 'spoke a few words at the Conference,' & then wrote out a speech, amplifying these few words into the porportions of the speech as it appeared in my paper. This impression was wholly incorrect. I am now prepared to furnish an attested copy of my Conference speech as minuted by Mr. Farmer, whose notes are in existence, & can be read by any one of Gurney's Clerks, should Mr. Farmer's rendering be disputed." He continues to explain that he was not prepared for the criticisms he received in regard to his "attachment and fidelity to the American Anti-Slavery Society."
