Description:
D.H. Chamberlain writes to Francis Jackson Garrison stating he sees "plainly that there is little effective opposition to the policy of surrender here." He laments that "the North is tired of the Southern question, and wants a settlement no matter what." He also guesses that "the author of the articles in S[outh] C[arolina] in the Atlantic ... [is] B[elton] O['Neall] Townsend of Society Hill in this state."
