Letter from John Greenleaf Whittier, Oak Knoll, Danvers, [Massachusetts], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1878 [May] 4
Description:
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, John Greenleaf Whittier encloses a note (not included) "from Ex. Gen. Holl of Muskegan Mich[igan] [which] will inform thee of the death of our dear friend Capt. [Jonathan] Walker of the 'Branded Hand.'" Whittier suggests raising funds for "suitable stone over the grave of Capt. W." and offers to contribute $5 himself. He also asks Garrison to come visit him, saying it is only "fifteen minutes on the Rail Road, from our friends the Sewalls."
