Letter from Henry Clarke Wright, to William Lloyd Garrison, [18]64 July 4
Description:
Henry Clarke Wright writes to William Lloyd Garrison, sharing his wish "to see & talk with" him and describing his "fighting the battle of Ideas (the only weapons I can use) to destroy Slavery & save the Republic". He says he is leaving a line with Yerrington stating "our National progress toward the one great object of our lives for thirty years" and asks Garrison to publish it in the Liberator as it would "greatly encourage the hearts & strengthen the hands of the true & loyal friends of freedom & free institutions." Wright compares the American Civil War to a "National Death Struggle" and declares, "Let us help the Republic each one in his own way - to slay its tremendous foe - slavery".
