Description:
In this letter to William Lloyd Garrison, John Greenleaf Whittier sends him $3 "for the relief of Stephen F. Weakly," commenting, "I know of no better way to express my sympathy with him in his sufferings & my hatred of the Fugitive Slave Law which caused them." He relates a story about Daniel Webster boasting of his support among Quakers "in his action in behalf of the Fugitive Slave Law" and challenges that he wishes "a tax could be levied upon them to the full amount of the loss which our friend has sustained".
