Letter from Angelina Emily Grimkè, Methuen, [Massachusetts], to Henry Clark Wright, 1837 [July] 30
Description:
Angelina Emily Grimkè writes to Henry Clark Wright regarding an address she delivered at Andover. She writes, "During part of the time there was a great deal of bad thunder & vivid lightning so that I was compelled to exert my voice more than usual." She writes about Sarah, her sister, who has not been well and asks "Do beg the sisters in Boston to send for her and entreat her to leave me. She keeps saying that it is of no consequence how soon she wears out, but I think this is very wrong, besides which she is actually wearing me out too, where I thinks it is of consequences for I want if my Master is willing to fight those battles of woman & the slave through & through to the end." She also describes a trip to Lowell. Angelina Emily Grimke writes a second letter on the back to Lydia Fuller in which she gives her instructions to send her specific clothing of hers to Groton.
