Description:
C.H. Thompson sends this telegram to William Lloyd Garrison informing him that he has been elected President of the Migration and Relief Association of N[ew] O[rleans]. He lists some of the officers of the organization and tells Garrison that "more than two thousand of our people are at landings on [the] Mississippi [River] waiting transportation [and] we need means to send them west." He also asks him to send "all communications and money" to his address.

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on a Western Union Telegraph Company telegram. Under the date, the number "96" is written in pencil and in the top right corner of the page, "Acknowledged" is written vertically and underlined in a different handwriting and different shade of black ink. On verso, along the tail edge, "MS.A.1.2V.40P.113(b)" is also written in pencil.
