Letter from Henry Clarke Wright, Cleveland, O[hio], to William Lloyd Garrison, [18]67 Dec[ember] 5
Description:
Henry Clarke Wright writes to William Lloyd Garrison about his journey to Ohio where he will be "for three months if lungs & general health hold out." He then discusses the "state of feeling in Ohio, as to Negro Suffrage", citing the widespread opposition of Ohio Democrats, in particular. Wright also mentions their hatred for President Andrew Johnson and asks if "Congress will back down & repeal the Reconstruction Acts that gave the Ballot to the Negro?" He tells Garrison the "two coming years will be years of Destiny to unborn ages", before discussing his friends Thomas & Mary Jones with whom he spent the previous evening.
