Description:
J.H. Stephenson writes to William Lloyd Garrison about a plan proposed to him by John M. Forbes to raise money to purchase a Christmas present for George Thompson. He states that Forbes "proposes to issue a circular referring to the opinions of eminent Englishmen as the value of Mr. T's services in England" to help raise funds, and asks Garrison to send him "a collection of the most valuable of these 'opinions'".

Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on stationery belonging to the "Office Boston Silk & Woollen Mills, No. 12 Arch Street. Boston", which contains an embossed logo of the initials "C S" in the head- spine corner of each page. Above the first line of the letter the name "[John M.]" has been inserted in pencil before the word "Forbes" and above the second line of the letter, the number "87" is written in pencil.
