Letter from Arthur Tappan, New Haven, [Connecticut], to William Lloyd Garrison, 1863 Nov[ember] 17
Description:
Arthur Tappan writes to William Lloyd Garrison accepting his invitation "to attend the meeting at Phila[delphia]" but warning his "advanced age (78th year) & growing infirmaties may prevent" him. He tells Garrison that he "often recalled the time when we were united in working for the slave & regretted that any occurance should have estranged us from each other." He also promises to Garrison to send him his photograph to "reciprocate" Garrison sending him his own photograph, and in the postscript he explains that he has "exhausted" his portrait supply but will get more and send one to him.
