Item Information
- Title:
- Letter from Harriet Beecher Stowe, [Andover, Massachusetts], to William Lloyd Garrison, [1854 February 18]
- Description:
-
Harriet Beecher Stowe writes to William Lloyd Garrison rejoicing "in the result of your lecture in N. York" and urging "that all who hate slavery be united if not, in form, at least in fact. Unity is difference." She tells Garrison that "the lectures have been embarrassed by a pressure of other nerves which the urgency of the Nebraska question has brought on us" and she states her agreement with "CKW in the Liberator that the present crisis must be siezed [sic] to indoctrinate the community with thorough anti-slavery views." Stowe also attemps to clarify the meaning of comments made by her brother, Henry Ward Beecher, that were published in the Liberator. Before ending the letter, Stowe tells Garrison, "if any thing can be done advantageously now that needs funds let me know" as she is "too feeble to do much otherwise."
