Boston Public Library (Rare Books Department) manuscript composed in black ink on stationery belonging to the "The Independent." The letterhead reads, "The Independent. Editorial Rooms, 251 Broadway. Post-Office Box 2787." Under the salutation the number "86" is written in pencil, while along the tail edge of the adjacent page, the phrase "Ms.A.1.2 v.40 P.108(b)" is also written in pencil. There is a black spot between the salutation and the first line of the letter, measuring about 1.5 x .9 cm.
