Title:
Aerial view of the Whittier Mills and surrounding countryside, Chattahoochee, Georgia [graphic]
Description:
Aerial view of the Whittier Mills and surrounding countryside, Chattahoochee, Georgia. Gelatin silver print, [1947-54]. Image depicts an aerial view of the Whittier Mills in Chattahoochee, Georgia. The plant is seen in the center left, with houses in rows on the right, probably company housing; the entire area is outlined in red ink. Another outlined area of houses is in the center of the photo. Another large area outlined in red is on the right, consisting of some houses and more uninhabited land. The Chattahoochee River is barely visible on the left, with a bridge crossing it in the upper left background. Overall the area is a mixture of rural land, housing, and one other business in the center of the photo which is unidentified. The Whittier Mills Co. manufactured cotton wrapping twine, cable and fire hose cord, weaving yarn and sewing thread. See 1992.126.4 for another aerial view from somewhat closer than this wide angle and 1992.126.2 for an aerial view that includes only the main plant area. 50.5 x 40.75 cm. (OCLC)
