Rouen
Item Information
- Title:
- Rouen
- Description:
-
On the left the spire of St. Ouen is the most conspicuous object. The verge of the Seine runs along the left side beneath the road which passes between the houses and with another beyond it, crosses the river to the right. In the foreground the artist's son Stephen is seated sketching, on a wooden wharf. The wall sloping down to the water, below the quay, has been much darkened around the men with a fishing-rod and beyond the big barge. The dark ends of the houses all along the riverside to right of the spire have been further darkened. A flag-staff has been added to the tower on the island. The funnel of a steamer 5 1/4 inches from the right end of the plate is still white.
