A modern Gothic church with a square tower stands on a hill In the distance. The street that leads towards it slopes down to a point at which it curves round to the right beneath the church. In the left-hand portion, marked off by a ruled line from the Leeds subject, is an unfinished portrait head of the artist, leaning forward and looking up; the tie, coat-collar and outline of the left shoulder are put in. This shows the original purpose for which the plate, treated as an upright, was intended; the portrait dates from the same period as Dodgson Nos. 245 and 246.
