Beak Street
Item Information
- Title:
- Beak Street
- Description:
-
A vista down a street in Soho with a Gothic spire near the middle of the plate. A large clock projects from a building on the left (part of the premises of Messrs. Liberty, at 154, Regent Street) ; just below the level of the clock a workman stands on a ladder which is held steady by a comrade at the foot. The subject is arched at the top, where a pulley hangs from the planks of a scaffold - the planks and pulley are put in with charcoal. A blank margin is left round the subject. Unfinished. The plate was abandoned after these few trial proofs had been pulled. The exact topographer must be cautioned against mistaking this print for evidence of the architectural features of Beak Street in 1905.
