Additional text on item: Councilor John D. Lynch takes the oath of office as mayor of Cambridge and is shown being sworn in by City Clerk Frederick H. Burke after a hard-fought battle for the seat. Election came when Councilor Joseph DeGuglielmo switched his vote for Lynch. In the rear are (l. to r.) Councilor John J. Foley of North Cambridge and W. Donnison Swan, two of four councilors who escorted Lynch to the rostrum.
