Additional text on item: Cambridge City Councilor Hyman Pill (right), seated with ex-Mayor John D. Lynch, also re-elected to the council, refused to change his vote for Lynch to one for himself and thus become mayor of Cambridge at age 75 when four other councilors cast ballots for him. That happened on the 147th ballot of 151 already cast in an apparently endless battle to elect a mayor from among the nine city councilors.
