<mods:abstract>Female students playing volleyball on the lower campus, Bridgewater State Normal School, at the annual Spring Meet and Field Day, June 2, 1930.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>The lower campus of the State Normal School at Bridgewater was located on the six acres of land across Summer Street from the first Normal School buildings. The land - purchased in 1881 by former principal Albert G. Boyden and later acquired by the state - was originally called Boyden Park and included a pond and ice house in addition to fields for sports and tennis. The building to the left is the ice house.</mods:note>
