Black rubbing on parchment-like paper, with a semi-glossy sheen (probably sprayed to keep it from smudging), from Hill Cemetery. Stone for Canada Wait, wife of Joseph Smith, died May 5th, 1749 in her 72nd year. Stylized angel with short curly hair and big eyes tops stone, with leaf border on either side. Canada Wait and Captivity Jennings were born in Canada while their mothers were in captivity with the Indians, then the French, following the raid on Hatfield, Sept. 17, 1677.
