'On June 13, 1957, Mayflower arrived in Plymouth Harbor after its fifty-four day voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. A crowd of 25,000 people lined the shores to welcome her. Plimoth Plantation partnered with Project Mayflower Ltd. of London to build the ship. William Avery Baker researched and designed plans for the ship, to become part of Plimoth Plantation. Mayflower was built in Upham's Shipyard in Brixham, Devon, England between 1955 and 1957. Alan Villiers was the captain of the 33 man crew. Ever since 1957, Plimoth Plantation has preserved this national icon.'
