'The first Voices of Diversity, Voices of America. Poets presenting in the language of their heritage, showing the diversity of America and our city. Twenty-one poets, eighteen languages. Location: Brockton library. 1. French: Messou Yourvina Fofana. A fifteen-year-old Brockton High School student. 'With my words, I can transcend time and transmit my emotions to existence from any time.' 2. Italian: Marguerite Guzman Bouvard. Is the author of ten poetry books, two of which have won awards, including the MASS Book Award for Poetry. 3. Scottish/English: Louisa Clerici's stories and poetry have been published in literary anthologies and magazines including 'Best New England Crime Stories,' 'Carolina Woman,' 'Ibbetson Street,' and 'Muddy River Poetry Review.' 4. Spanish: Rhina P. Espaillat. Has published ten full-length books and three chapbooks comprising of poetry, essays, and short stories, in both English and her native Spanish. 5. Cape Verdean: Euclides Gibau was born in Cape Verde, arrived in the USA, and received his M.A. in Education in 2012. He has been writing poetry since he was seventeen years old and has written several poems and articles that were published in different magazines. 6. Greek: Philip Hasouris. Is a proud Brockton poet, author of three books of poetry, and poetry coordinator and host of the Brockton Library Poetry Series 'Everyone Has a Voice.' 7. Creole: Jean Dany Joachim. Cambridge Poet Populist from 2009 to 2011, and the current Poet in Residence at First Church in Cambridge. Is also an author of short stories and plays. He created the Many Voices Project, a series of readings and follow-up poetry workshops. 8. Creole: Jocelyn Joseph is a current resident of Brockton. He was born in Trou-du-Nord, Haiti. He is a multi-talented man who lives to serve wherever he goes. He is also a poet and writer. 9. Cantonese: Christina Liu. She holds a B.A. in Writing, Literature, and Publishing and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Emerson College. Formerly an ESL counselor and translator, she is currently an academic advisor and writing instructor at Boston Architectural College. 10. Schizophrenian: Michael Mack graduated from the Writing Program at MIT. He is widely known for his lyric solo plays. 'Hearing Voices, Speaking in Tongues' chronicles his mother's life with schizophrenia. The second: 'Conversations with My Molester: A Journey of Faith.' 11. Shona from Zimbabwe: U-Meleni Mhlaba-Adebo is a Zimbabwean American poet, author, speaker, singer and educator who has performed internationally. She has been featured on WGBH Suitcase Stories. 12. Yoruba from Nigeria: Edward Oluokun. Obtained a Masters of Arts in English from the University of Memphis and Masters of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary. He is a talented percussionist who also delights in African motif paintings. 13. Portuguese: Gustavo Pereira is a Brazilian American poet living in Boston. Gustavo's passion and love for poetry trace back to childhood wonders and play with words. 14. French: Joseph P. Policape was born in Haiti. Is the author of three poetry collections, a short story book, and a novel. An author that captures people's lives through his multiple disciplinary talents as a writer, poet, minister, and counselor. 15 & 16. Sanskrit: Renuka Raghavan is the author of 'Out of the Blue,' a collection of prose and poetry. Renuka also serves as the fiction book reviewer at Cervena Barva Press. Vijay Raghavan, from Madurai in South India, dabbles in poetry translations at the behest of his wife. 17. Hebrew: Mathew Rosenthal is a local poet with publications in small press publications. Brockton has a great poetry of which I am happy to count myself a member. 18. Urdu: Karim A. Sharif, Ph.D. Karim was born in a small town called Rabwah in Pakistan. Karim is a Professor of Biology at Massaoit Community College. 19. Armenian: Sandra J. Toplian is currently the co-founder and CAO of 'Soar Without Limits: Heal Through the Arts' which pairs artwork of people with disabilities with poetry from inspired poets. 20. Mandarin: Michelle Yu holds a B.S. from Nanjing University in China and a Ph.D. from the University of California at San Francisco, and was an instructor at Harvard Medical School. Michelle teaches Chinese and art class in Newton Chinese School. 21. Polish: Gregory L. Zagloba, M.B.A., began his career convinced that he should become a priest. However, after spending a few years in the seminary, he decided that the military was a better choice. He is currently trying to figure out what to do tomorrow.'
