Visiting Mamala at Jewish Senior Services Rehabilitation, Bridgeport, CT
Description:
'The last time I visited with my 93-year-old Mamala was in February 2020, then due to the COVID-19 virus, it was very unclear when I would be able to see her again. I was so worried she would become ill with COVID + possibly have to die alone. The congregate housing where she lives will still not allow any visitors. During this time she fell in her kitchen, broke her hip, was brought to the hospital, had surgery and then was transferred to a rehabilitation center for 3 weeks for physical therapy. In this photograph it is the first time I was able to visit with her. It was a very emotional visit. Both my parents are Holocaust survivors and my father died when I was young, so my relationship with my mother is very close. Pictured, from left to right: Susan Margot Ecker and Inge Ecker Verheggen.'
