Claude congratulates Herman on his new position and writes about his own experiences after his transfer to the Army Motor Mechanics School. He narrowly avoided being transferred to the machine gun unit, and if that had happened then he'd be setting sail by now. It would have been exciting work, but it does not have good life expectancy. His current work is mostly office work, which is fine since he is newly married and his wife lives at the school with them. The school is closing in October so at that time they will be relocated again. A packing list is written on the back of the envelope.
