It has been 3 months since Brent was at the front, watching the Germans retreat, a day that was "black Friday the 13th" for them. Just now he watched the 3rd Army cross the Rhine, a second "black Friday the 13th" for Germany. He's nearly completed his work of finding space for the Motor Transport Corps and will be taking over a big German depot to serve his purposes. He describes negotiations with the Germans for equipment and buildings, including demanding the "finest largest government building" to use for staff offices after having been offered a cold and unsatisfactory building. Brent has no sympathies for the Germans but writes that they are not to disturb religious societies or schoolchildren.
