Hope has been urging Caleb to write about the relocation centers. "Briefly, the advantages to be gained from teaching in such a situation would seem to be: the need for sympathetic and sensitive Caucasians in the Centers to combat in some measure the racial discrimination which is present; the chance for real fellowship with some of the niseis, (a sweller bunch of people you'll go far to find) and to get to understand a complicated by typical racial situation; the fact that you can encourage them to go our of the Centers into American life." Unfortunately it also means earn nine times what a Nisei teacher earns, "teaching democracy in a totalitarian concentration camp," and a harsh climate and possible army control.
