Busy and pace has increased since Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor has him worrying about Japanese Americans. Pacifists face a horrible dilemma, tuck away their doctrines or face a Fascist world. "With the Pearl Harbor attack and its subsequent events I found that I could no longer lay claim to being anything but a partial pacifist. That fact you saw when I failed to attempt to get out of the draft on the grounds of conscientious objection." Subsequent events in the was have confirmed this feeling. "You see, Caleb, I want the United Nations to win this war. Despite the imperfections in our way of life, it seems to me evident that it is far better for the future than the overlordship of the Nazis or Fascists. That we must prevent the fall of our civilization even at the cost of blood and sacrifice I now accept as the axiomatic truth. I cannot see how that can be done by non-violent resistance in the absence of a stronge organization dedicated to that principle." Has been fighting like hell against injustices to the Negro in the military.
