A small (2.25" x 3.5") black-and-white photograph, mounted on cardboard, of several girls outdoors on a warm day with two or three donkeys, each being ridden by a girl. One donkey is being led by a boy, and behind them is a man in a groom's cap. They are in front of 147 Prince Street, then home the Carroll School (not shown in photo). In the background is the house at 158 Prince Street, West Newton. The Carroll School, a small private school, was founded c. 1884 by Miss Rosalie Carroll and Miss Kate Carroll at their home on Temple Street, West Newton. The Carrolls and their school soon moved to 147 Prince Street. In 1900 the school was inherited by headmistress and owner Mary S. Barbour. The school operated until about 1961. In the 1960s it was purchased and became a new school, also named the Carroll School, which moved to Lincoln, MA, in 1971 and serves children with verbal learning differences.
