<mods:abstract>This 8mm film of the Springfield College Girls' Drill Team was taken by Channel 22 in 1954. There is no sound. At this time, it is not known how the film was used or in what show it appeared in or even if it was shown by Channel 22. The film begins with a shot of Judd Gymnasia and then moves into an interview with unidentified people in the middle of old Hickory Street in the center of campus. The rest of the film is of the Drill Team going through their drills in West Gymnasium. The drill team formed in 1953. They performed at football and basketball games, and, in the words of the 1954 Massasoit, "prov[ed] themselves adept at precision marching." Jean Greig supervised the thirty-two member squad until 1954, when Diane H. Babbitt assumed responsibility. The Women's Athletic Association was responsible for organizing the Drill Team as well as other intramural programs and sports clubs.</mods:abstract>
