Regarding resistance to building subsidized housing developments for moderate to low income families in predominantly white suburbs that fear an influx of African American and poor families to the neighborhood. A subsidized housing complex was built in Stoughton, but residents in Canton and Randolph, Massachusetts, voted down similar zoning changes. President Nixon's comments on "forced integration" in the suburbs and relaxation of Federal pressure to develop subsidized apartments are also blamed.
