Minutes of Easter Seal Task Force on specialized housing
Description:
Regarding the role which Easter Seal can take in the field of housing and the previous work the society has done in the field such as a seminar which revealed that consumer and advocacy groups for people with physical disabilities were not talking to each other about housing programs. During the meeting, Alphonse Hillard discussed an immediate need to find housing for paraplegics and quadriplegics in the Veterans Administration Hospital in West Roxbury. The type of information needed to move forward in the housing field are listed, including providing architects with information on designing specialized buildings, brochure with resources for architectural details and agencies, interviews with people with disabilities living in various types of housing, and financial information. Richard A. LaPierre suggests recommending that local housing authorities implement a law requesting that 5% of houses built for the elderly be adapted for people with disabilities.
