'In 1996 the State Fire Marshall's office started a program called SAFE, Student Awareness of Fire Education. We taught children about home fire safety like working smoke detectors, having a way out, and sleeping with the bedroom door closed. This was one of the first classes I taught. I taught over 150 classes, pre-kindergarten through fourth grade over a 15-year period. The program is still alive and well today in 2018.
