'This photo was taken at my sister-in-law's surprise birthday party. This was an awesome day as this was a surprise brunch for my sister-in-law that had absolutely no idea about the planning or preparation of the brunch, needless to say, she was completely blown away. I give that background as it lends merit to the story. My mom works weekends and it is always a joy to have both matriarchs at the same function at the same time. My aunt Bonnie is mother of five children and grandmother to numerous grandkids, and recently became a great grandmom. My aunt Bonnie was born and raised in Boston and has seen so many times and tides change here. My aunt loves all and is one of my favorite people to hang out with, her love for movies, cultural events, politics, and family runs strong. She says she never looks good in pictures but she doesn't see what I see, a woman who experienced racism and triumphed, a woman without great means that took what she had and fed an army. A person of fortitude who fights for what's right, objects to what's wrong, and thrives in the face of politics. My aunt loves her family and has instilled strong values and so much love to her children, their children, and her great grand children as well as to many others. I learn so much just being around her, plus she has dry sense of humor, which I love. When my aunt and my mom get together it is awesome to see their different ways of being and yet so much alike. They feed off each other and are the ties that bind our family together. My aunt loves to talk and my mother not as much and yet it’s the ying and yang that makes the rest of us smile. The love and life lessons run through us all. Much love Aunt Bonnie and mom. Pictured, from left to right: my aunt Boonie Booker and my mom Carolyn Harrell.'
