'Come to MV in 1882 at 21 years old. 1st Portuguese elected official in MV. 1st child to graduate from MV High of Portuguese descent. Was the patriarch of the Portuguese of MV. Was instrumental in bringing the Catholic Church to MV, building the Portuguese American Club and helping fellow immigrants learn to read and write in English.
