6th grade math class learns symmetry through quilting
Description:
'In 2006, Hingham Middle School math teacher Brooks Davolos invited me to work with her 38 students on a lesson on symmetry. Each student was given graph paper and designed a block using their creativity. I took the 38 blocks home and took the challenge to create a quilt square of each using the same colors. In this photo, the 4 boys created a team that would put their 4 blocks into a layout for a finished quilt. In the end, the class made 12 twin size quilts that were donated to Project Linus an organization that collects and distributes blankets to those in need. I know some of these quilts went to a family who lost their home in a fire. The photo is a great reminder of how Hingham education was a family partnership.
