'Part of Wayland Historical Society collection, this is a professional photo by Norton Studios. Mrs. Child was a Wayland resident from 1852-1880. She is buried in North Cemetery. Abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison called her 'The First Woman of the Republic' for her tireless efforts on abolition. She is in the Women's Hall of Fame. Pictured: Lydia Maria Child.'
