The Russell family at 397 Boston Post Rd. with Sand Hill in the background circa 1940s
Description:
'Family photo at front door of our house, with my grampy. Sand Hill is in the background across Rt. 20 and the train tracks. My brother Sam and I would ski on Sand Hill for fun. My dad was offered to purchase Sand Hill (approx. 57 acres). He declined the purchase because as a farmer it had zero value to him. Nothing would grow it was all sand. The person who did buy the land leveled the hill sold the fill to make Rt. 128. They then built a building for Ratheon Corporation that proceeded to make defense systems for the government. Pictured, from left to right: Lewis Samuel Russell, Jr., Samuel Lewis Russell, Ruth Eaton Russell, Lewis Samuel Russell, Sr., and Samuel Russell. Location: Route 20.'
