Alfred Atkins Mayo, sea captain and owner of Akpah, Eskimo boat #1
Description:
'Alfred Atkins Mayo was 'one of the greatest fresh fisherman who ever sailed from Provincetown' as related by Mary Heaton Vorse in her book about Provincetown, 'Time and the Town' (p. 180). In his retirement he bought an 'Eskimo boat' from his friend and builder, Jot Small. It became #1 and he named it Akpah. He rarely, if ever, lost a race. All 10 'Eskimos' built took Eskimo names due to the fact that Jot accompanied Donald MacMillan on many of his trips to the Arctic. Pictured: Alfred Atkins Mayo.'
