'In 2007, one of Milton's most public spirited citizens, George M. Thompson, Jr., was awarded France's highest honor, the Legion d'Honneur, by French President Nicolas Sarkozy. The Legion of Honor is comparable to the Unites States' Congressional Medal of Honor, and was bestowed upon Mr. Thompson for valor while fighting in Europe in WWII. Mr. Thompson, his wife Anne, and his family traveled to Washington D.C. for a red-carpet evening at the French Ambassador's mansion. Mr. Thompson and his wife have been married for 50 years and have raised three daughters in Milton. He was a Town Meeting member for 40 years with perfect attendance, and Mrs. Thompson has been Milton Historical Tour for 30 years for every fifth grade in the Milton Public Schools. Between them, the Thompsons have donated over 70 years of volunteer service to our town. They are truly Milton's hometown heroes! Pictured: myself Anne Thompson and George Thompson.'
