'Police and Fire Departments used to sponsor a 4th of July celebration and collected prizes to give out after the parade. Prizes were collected from local merchants. Kids would get the prizes after the parade--we'd put names in a drawing and give the prizes out. I am a retired Waltham Lieutenant Detective. Pictured: Sgt. John Benson, myself J.
