'My grandfather Hervey Derry was born in Sharon in 1869 and he was the first police chief of Sharon from 1911-1917. Hervey also owned a painting business in Sharon. He retired at 82 and died in 1961. He was a great storyteller, and house contractor. When he was 82 years old, he painted the Unitarian Church steeple. I was a little kid and I watched him paint it.'
