Pounce pot, also known as an ink sander. It is used to hold pounce, or fine sand/powdered cuttlefish, that is used for drying ink on parchment or to prepare paper for writing (often misunderstood which is the correct purpose). It has a turned, cylindrical body with a rounded, perforated top. The top has a conical finial and a rim with one incised groove on top of the rim. The base has two grooves. The chamber has two deeper, thicker incised grooves and one thin incised groove directly in the middle of the chamber below the two. The underside of base has paper label reading "7/6" or "4/6". The top appears to have come off in the past but possibly glued on at one point.
