Clint writes to Rhea about his travels through Germany over several days. He is now staying in Dockweiler, a small town about 60 miles west of Koblenz. He details their journey through France and Luxembourg to reach Germany and eventually the Rhine. The German towns they pass through are beautiful and untouched by the war, in comparison to the devastated towns he saw in France. The German people seem mostly glad to see them and happy that the war is over. They have moved to Ahrweiler where they are being looked after by a German Frau. He was glad to receive more letters from Rhea and wants her to enjoy her life to the fullest without him rather than just sit there waiting for him to return. His regiment's surgeon is leaving for home to care for his sick wife, and he made Clint promise that he would come and visit him at his expensive home. He writes about his attempts to get film developed and how he wished he could take more photographs in Germany. The people have been very friendly to them although they have strict orders not to fraternize with them.
