Girl's 3-piece dress or suit of cotton print, with black, yellow/tan, and white stripes; small heart-shaped figure in white on black stripes, and dotted/wavy line pattern in black on white stripes; machine and handstitching; bodice (.1612a) has peter pan collar of cream colored linen or cotton, with embroidered, scalloped edging, eyelet embroidery, and needlework fills in grid or mesh pattern; sloped shoulders and long, slightly puffed, curved sleeves; wide band cuffs, with band of contrasting fabric applied around bottom on each; stylized/geometric floral pattern in blue and pink on white ground, with brown and black borders on appliqué; vertical bands of same appliqué on front (1 on either side of front opening), and on back (3 towards center); gathers at center back waist, make bands form roughly V-shape; also gathered in at front waist near center (either side of opening); gathers form slight peplum around bottom; front closure, with 5 brown plastic buttons (not original) and 1 mother-of-pearl button; inner waistband of plain cream colored muslin; long skirt (.1612b), slightly longer on back and gathered in with tight pleats under waistband (either side of opening); smooth (ungathered) on front, except for 2 small pleats at sides under waistband; plain cream colored cotton or linen waistband; upper back opening, with single white glass button closure on waistband; "S. Chase [?]" written in ink on back waistband; single buttonhole on front waistband at center (to secure drawers?); 1 hidden side seam pocket on front; short apron/overskirt/capelet (.1612c), with band of of same appliqué around bottom; longer, rounded and puffed panel on back, gathered in with tight pleats under waistband (either side of opening); self fabric waistband (worn over bodice peplum?), with single shell button closure on back; cotton twill tape ties inside under panel to hold "puff." Dated ca. 1877-83.
