The flyer advertises the School for Christian Workers, now Springfield College, established in 1885. It lists the brief history of the establishment, provides the names of faculty, includes endorsements, and lists facts and prices to attend the school. It also shows the purpose of the school, the demand for its students, rates of attrition, the growth of the school in terms of students enrolled and the three types of instruction it offered. The document also states the three special courses of training the school offered, General Secretary, Christian Gymnasium Instructor, and Pastor’s helper and Sunday School Worker. The building depicted in this item was called “The Armory Square YMCA”, also called the Armory Hill Branch, which was located at Catherine and State Streets in Springfield, Mass., next to the Winchester Square building. The building provided dormitory apartment rooms for men staying at the Armory Hill YMCA and studying at the School for Christian Workers. The Armory Square YMCA's 2nd floor housed the School for Christian Workers, which were the beginnings of Springfield College.
