Fields' floating bridge // Passage of the fleet of transports through 'the marshes' onto Croatan Sound. The channel through the marshes connects Pamlico & Roanoke Sounds. On the right are seen the densely wooded shores of Roanoke Island with in the distance the fleet of gunboats engaging the first of the rebel batteries, Fort Bartow -- 9 guns."
