Doggett served as President of the college from 1896 until his retirement in 1936. During his tenure at Springfield College (then the International YMCA Training School), Doggett saw the growth of the student body from 50, when he first arrived, to 500 upon his retirement. Doggett was also instrumental in the development of the campus, overseeing the building of a new library, gymnasium, swimming pool and athletic field.
