<mods:abstract>A photograph of Springfield College President, Laurence Locke Doggett seated with his wife, Olive, and what are believed to be Korean Springfield College alumni. This picture was taken during a trip around the world that Dr. and Mrs. Doggett took at the time of his retirement in 1936. Doggett served as Springfield College's (then the International YMCA Training School) fourth president and first full-time president from 1896 to 1936.</mods:abstract>
<mods:note>During his time at the college Doggett improved upon the facilities by building a new library, gymnasium, athletic field and swimming pool. Doggett's leadership also saw an increase in the size of the student body from fifty to 500 and in the faculty which increased from eight to forty. Dr. Doggett was instrumental in developing the college's humanics philosophy which called for the education of the whole person - spirit, mind and body; a philosophy that the college embraces to this day. Doggett remained active in the Springfield College community until in death in 1957 at the age of 92.</mods:note>
