A picture of the 1891 Springfield College Baseball Team. Of particular note is Amos Alonzo Stagg, seated in the center, or the “Grand Old Man of Football”, who was a student and instructor at Springfield College from 1890-1892. Also, in the back row, is Dr. James Naismith, the creator of the game of basketball at Springfield College in 1891. The complete team as pictured is - Front Row: J.M. Dick, W.D. Barry, and G.H. Finch. Middle Row: W.J. Keller, W.H. Ball, Jr., A.A.Stagg, Captain, Thomas Scotton, and A.E. Garland. Back Row: A.P. Stockwell, James Naismith, Manager, B. Van Leuvan, and W.O. Black.
