Letter from Les Vepond to Gerald Davis
- Letter from Les Vepond to Gerald Davis
Letter from Les Vipond, Associate General Secretary of the Canadian YMCA, to Springfield College librarian, Gerald Davis, thanking him for the materials that were sent and indicating that they will be placed in the Archives of Canada along with the 45rpm record of the Sir George Williams wax cylinder. The letter was dictated by Vipond but typed and signed by his secretary. The wax cylinder mentioned in the letter dates back to 1894. That year, the YMCA celebrated its 50th anniversary and to celebrate the YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, hosted a Jubilee Celebration. Sir George Williams, founder of the YMCA, wrote a letter to the Jubilee Class and recorded it on a wax cylinder at the Edison House in London, England. The cylinder was sent to the Training School and played during the celebration.
